  • Buttercup was our first serious attempt at seating, and comfort was our main objective. Bent ply was chosen as the primary material because it offered us the ability to create comfortable, organic forms without expensive tooling-- molds for bending ply are typically a few thousand dollars, a tiny percentage of the cost of a mold for an injected molded chair. Two ben ply shapes are combined together to create a surprisingly comfortable shell that reads as a continuous ribbon of material.
