The design problem was to design a Business Center in the sea. Functionality, style and accessibility are the main considerations in achieving the design solution.
[ Functionality ]
In a business center, functionality is a main concern. The plan suggests equally divided, sea-viewing, spaces to accommodate the functions. To enable collaboration, various sitting areas with special water features are located within the building. These features also extend the sea/building connection.
[ Style ]
The sea-wave mimicking facade has a futuristic appeal that is fitting for the building type and location.
[ Accessibility ]
The site location is of a delicate nature, where the public is attached to this site. Thus, the design links the land and the building in numerous solutions to ensure that it is accessible (public-friendly), such as:
- special seating in the sea to maintain the land/building connection
- front-facing embedded sitting area (using the area bellow the auditorium to serve as a gentle embrace, the first connection between the user and the building)
- transparency of the facade
- sunset-viewing sitting area
- transparency of the facade
- sunset-viewing sitting area
The jacket-foundation based building combines [ function, style & accessibility ] in a modern sea business center: Bahrain World City.
