In the first assignment for this subject, we were introduced to various types of building materials that are being used in the current construction practice, as well as to furher understand the physical and chemical properties of the building materials being used in an existing building. In our case, it was Menara Mustapha kamal which is 1/4 of the 4 towers at the PJ Trade Centre. Besides that, we were exposed to standard construction names and terminologies for materials in a specific space or building.
The task was to produce a complete documentation and analysis of materials in respect to its physical and chemical properties, as well as to identify various types of finishes and structures. This assignment helped me further understand the effects of building materials on ornamental and structural qualities of Menara Mustapha Kamal. More over, all the research done to understand these materials opened my eyes to understand how appropriate a certain material is when used in context. I've also developed alytical skills in understanding selection of building materials for a specific building or design.
I have my group mates, Qistina Shah, Aidil Maula, and Linda to thank for working on this assignment with me. as well as Mr Sanjay and Mr Eu Shin for guiding us through all the tutorials intended for this assignment.
