  • The Design intent for the school is based on the metaphor of books opening to let students learn from what is inside the building. On a practical level, the vertical fins that are made of laminated glass over a perforated plastic pattern that reduces the solar heat gain and direct sunlight to the spaces. It also provides an opportunity for an aesthetic development as these louvers are on the streetside of the high school. Major electrical and mechanical systems are located in an accessible zone underneath the floor. This creates a high degree of flexibility due to ease of accessibility for these systems. Also, it means that the HVAC system only conditions the space nearest to the floor where the building occupants are, rather than the entire height of the space.
