Escarpment Retreat Brochure Design Concept
- The Escarpment Retreat is like a piece of heaven in the South Pacific. It's an amazing place, located on the middle of the Mt Tamborine's rainforest (Queensland, Australia). The Escarpment Retreat have a focus on privacy and relaxation, and counts with a Gold Class Cinema and a Spa Pavillion. Yet, there are the gourmet dinning under the overlooking of the rainforest. The native birds and the waterfalls will be the only sounds that you can hear. That's why Escarpment Retreat is internationally awarded.
They were looking to a brochure that could tease people with the various qualities of the Retreat, fitting to its soul of relaxation. Then they held a contest and people sent some amazing concepts. I were one of them, and got into the finalists. I didn't won the contest but the result of my work have its qualities.
The first thing to do when we got a job is to read the briefing. Fortunatelly we got a good briefing that covered most of my questions about the layout and the text. Then I made a research about the Escarpment Retreat. Took a good look at the website and the flickr, both amazing fonts of photographies and text. Moreover it was a good point that made things easier: the professional quality of the photos. Then I made a brief research about similars and about Australia.
Now, with information-fueled brain I started to plain how to fit the Escarpment's magnitude into a simple brochure. Hmm, simple... Yeah, simplicity is a good thing. The slogan really catched me, "Where Heaven Meets Earth", then I decided to use it.
The final result is shown below. The Cover photography is from an angel statue holding a bird, near a river inside Escarpment Retreat, and it represents perfectly the spirit and the slogan. I used the golden meaning, a proportion used in Renaissance pictures and that is found on nature, to take some decisions about the layout. The brochure is divided into four specific areas: the feeling of escape, the experience, the explore freedom and the rejuvenation. The text were provided and the images were taken from flickr. The chosen color palette is about something natural and earthy, yet warm and cozy. I created a handscript to use on the titles and in the cover, trying to deliver a feeling of refinement. Finally, based on maps found on internet I created a brand new one.
Well, I can say that a design is never trully finished, at least not the good ones. So, this brochure still needy of some tuning. But the result is good. I'd like to thanks Gary, of Escarpment Retreat, for the hints and attention. Cya.
