In the Boys Series I photographed the backside of the fashion scene, the emphasis is not on anorexia or the whole production system
behind the fashion scene. The emphasis is on male friendships and the aesthetics of the androgyny boys.
These photo's I have taken all over Europe, Marseilles France, London and in my home town Arnhem. Mostly I was asked to make fashion shoots, and then afterwords I went to the catwalk show. But I'm not interested in world of the spotlights, yes that's my work as a commissioned photographer. But what you see in the spotlights is
perfection, I can't add anything to that.
I'm interested in the human, the modelling boy, waiting behind the scenes, for the big moment. I'm fascinated with these androgyny boys, I want to investigate them. That's what I do in the post production of my photo's I'm going to draw over them to put ʻthatʼ forward what's beautiful to me, veins, shadows in their face. It's not the ordinary beauty what's triggering me, it is the typically personal characteristics which are inspiring me to enlarge them and to show them to the world. Read Less
