Borrowed Language

Borrowed Language was a beautiful publication based on, "stolen" text and images. The images all were cut from W magazine. The cut was a 1"x1" square randomly placed on the cover of the magazine and cut through the entire publication. The variety relieved haunting and curious thumbnails that I then created my own publication from.
This publication had rules. All of the images had to be black and white. The entire book had to be 5"x5" and 12 spreads long, using only the images created by the cut made into the magazine. The challenge was to see the images and tell a story with them. The mystery of the blurry images and the eery emptiness in all of eyes made an instant connection to the essay, "Allegory of the Cave" by Plato.
