Bold Monday  |  Macula – the "impossible typeface" in use

Bold Monday, a type foundry based in The Hague, the Netherlands, released a font family called Macula, designed by Jacques Le Bailly in February 2013. I was asked to create some examples of the font in use. A wonderful exercise because nothing was required except playing around and trying to find out the different features, the font family offers to a designer.

Macula comes in five styles, which are already amazing if they are used by themselves, but even exceed the possibilities when put in layers. By stacking different styles of Macula on top of each other, beautiful multi-colored typography becomes possible. Its precise construction offers a wonderful playground for "impossible" two-dimensional designs and optical illusions.

The complete font family or single styles can be ordered at http://www.boldmonday.com/en/macula/
