  • Australia's oldest organisation, The Bible Society, was facing a decline in engagement with the Bible, especially within the Christian community, with fewer than 10% reading the bible on a daily basis. Ministers were finding it harder and harder to attract new mwmber to the church while keeping their faithful engaged.

In an environment where 140 character tweets are becoming the norm, long passages of the Bible were fighting to be heard. We found that the average length of a Bible verse was 25 words - not dissimilar to  tweet. So what if we could encourage people to connect with the Bible 25 Words at a time?

Live Light in 25 Words was born.

  • Stage one was a mailer to 10,00 key parishes across the country. It consisted of a pack introducing the 25 Words campaign to ministers in a literal demonstration of growing the word of God.
The pack included all the resources the ministers needed to reconnect their faithful to the Bible, with 25 word verses on which to base sermons, as well as a dedicated online resource.
With an engagement rate of 99%, it was an indication that the approach was successful.
  • Stage two was the online resource http://25words.biblesociety.org.au/ where ministers and parishioners alike could find out more and connect deeper by creating a 25 word a day habit.
To date, nearly 11,000 people have connected through the site, with over 76,000 resources accessed.
