Beijing:Beer
On May 31st I traveled to Beijing China with UB for a "Visual Studies Workshop". We interacted & worked with the Central Academy of Fine Arts students and produced individual projects in a 15 day time frame. The idea was to experience and discuss Old Beijing vs New Beijing. I, myself thought this was rather difficult seeing as Beijing was completely new to us; even the "Old" parts. After some discussions & brainstorming I decided to focus on a slightly different subject; drinking culture in Beijing, which still relates to the initial topic just in a slightly less direct way. I was looking for a topic that I was interested in and would be inspired and motivated to research and present and this seemed to fit the bill :)
Below is a series of photos, artifacts and general documentation of my research and development of a project I will be continuing in the future.

the poster i designed hanging amongst other CAFA related postings on campus. (the one with the chopsticks.)
the poster up close. very minimal design. i feel inspite of lacking resources i usually take for granted in terms of availability/accessibility, the poster was printed and posted in time for the gallery opening :)
researching for my project on the great wall...an intense research component went into this project & I feel will have to be continued...
my first attempt at creating and implementing a survey into my work. the english translation sounds very...unintelligent, but I was encouraged to make it as understandable as possible in english, so it could be easily understood and translated to Chinese.
the Chinese translation of my survey complete with a response from a woman I met in the more westernized downtown Beijing area where Philippine cover bands & Budweiser are plentiful.
Passing out my survey to men who clearly had already started drinking for the day....
my space in the gallery at CAFA complete with makeshift beer pong table.
makeshift beer pong table. i.e. abandoned paintings left in the room we turned into a gallery i flipped over and taped together. recycling in china...it's unavoidable.
thanks for translating Eeefun!
The students we were working with at CAFA had never heard of or played beer pong, but a select few were very eager to play at 10am the day of the opening.
He had a problem keeping his elbows behind the table but my team still won :)
Scans of labels from bottles I consumed. Tsing Tao can be purchased at Wegmans :)
I had no idea the NBA sponsored beer... expired beer by the way.
very interesting the logo in the upper left corner...."SS" huh?
