Project Projects and Superpool created the exhibition design and graphics for “Becoming Istanbul,” "The Making of Beyoglu," and "90," a set of related exhibitions at SALT, Istanbul, that explore contemporary Istanbul in multiple ways. "Becoming Istanbul" contains at its core an interactive database of over 400 media, including artists' videos, documentaries, and architectural projects, focusing on phenomena typically overlooked in urban discourse. “The Making Of Beyoglu" consists of a series of public workshops examining the methodology and implementation of urban planning projects in the city center. Finally, “90" is an ongoing series of 90 daily events that focus on a broad range of contemporary issues in Istanbul.
The structure of the three exhibitions features an open-ended design and graphic approach that invites participation from a broad public. Components include a feedback system to solicit public response, a network of dispersed LED informational and wayfinding signs, a physical and interactive “calendar,” and a workshop space with a 3D topographic map of Istanbul that doubles as a seating area. The exhibitions use a custom stencil version of Berton Hasebe's typeface Platform, drawn specifically for the project. Read Less
