Batelle Darby Creek Metro Park Nature Center

Batelle-Darby Creek Metro Park
Nature Center
Galloway, Ohio

Lying within a 7,000 acre metro park is the 14,000sq.ft. Batelle Darby Creek Metro Park Nature Center. Partially nested into the hillside to minimize visual impact on the landscape, the south facing facade maximizes the prairie views and day-lighting opportunities within the interior of the center. With sustainable design features such as: natural ventilation, passive solar design, a vegetated roof system and a geothermal heat pump system; this classroom, multipurpose and exhibit space provides flexibility of use by groups of varying sizes. With the main feature being the bison enclosure - viewable from the south facade observation deck - there are also interpretive exhibits including a "living stream" which celebrates the watershed's unique biodiversity.
