  • Widhya Asih Orphanages in Bali
helping to lead and facilitate a team of teachers and their families to paint murals in an orphanage in Bali.
  • A team of around 40 of us traveled to Bali to work for 5 days at the orphanage. Our school has a strong relationship with the organisation, and sends groups of children with their parents every year to help out/ build/  serve the kids. This was my first visit. I began by drawing out the project on the Tuesday, and by Friday, we had painted just under 200m2 and I was able to add the finishing touches under the beam of a cars headlight.  For me, it was a challenge, as instead of painting with a brush and my ipod, I was painting using people. Showing them how to shade, outline and use a brush in my style.  The team did a fantastic job and the children that live there were touched and impacted by the new environment.

  • The trick was trying to get everyone to shade in the same style. At least 8 people worked on this piece of wall, including a 4 year old boy, an art teacher, a Physical Education teacher, a Singaporean DJ, a Music teacher, 3 teenagers and myself. As you can see each colour and set of leaves have been done slightly differently, but were tied together by the lack outlines.
