Baetulona Project

  • Artwork for Baetulona Project

    "Written for the Future"

    THEME:
El baró de Maldà and you “Box of Sastre”

    EXPLANATION:
The Baron of Malda had a country house in Badalona (Can Peixau), among other properties, where he used to spend the seasons. He was the author of an interesting piece of work called Calaix de Sastre about his life in Catalunya and about the customs and characteristics of Badalona at that time. The Baron of Malda’s work helped the Badalonenses to reconstruct the historical reality of that period.
  • From Brrothers Team:

“DREAM ABOUT THE ABSURD AND YOU’LL ACHIEVE THE IMPOSSIBLE…”

That is what crossed our minds the day we decided to embark on this project Leandro Boido, Matías Rizzo, Martin Rizzo, Aymón Malonda Gracia, Mireia Aguilar Pardo, Mariana Hormaechea, Juan Ignacio Serra, Natalia Copercido i Vanesa Giamberardino.

Eorganized it and today it’s an indisputable reality.

The project was launched to Badalona’s city hall within the framework of Catalan Culture Capital which the city hosts during 2010. We meant to create a 100 meters canvas in which the most important hundred historical moments of the city would be represented. We also wanted 100 main studios in graphic design and illustration from all around the world to perform that work.

In the first meeting, more than 9 months ago, many people thought what we were setting out was “impossible, absurd”. The question in the air was: “How come a hundred main studios would support a young group creating a project for Badalona?” A week later it was proved that nothing is impossible since 30 studios from more than 15 countries had agreed to participate in the canvas.

The next step was to talk with Badalona’s renowned historians Joan Soler i Amigó, Margarida Abras and Emili Ferrando. Badalona’s Museum also offered its photographic archive and after several meetings with the historians we selected the most representative hundred moments for the city history. After the big job done with the historians and the Museum there was still a lot to do but with a lot of effort and enthusiasm the goal was achieved.

Today hundred studios from 50 different countries are working on their pieces, HP has offered its support by printing the canvas, Vilarnau winery will allow the Baetulona to be exposed in its cellars, Cdmon and Domestika also support the project and a pop-up book (the canvas miniature in 10 meter per 15 centimetre) will be edited.

All this, which at the beginning for many people was something “absurd”, today it’s an undeniable reality which fills us with pride.

“DREAM ABOUT THE ABSURD AND YOU’LL ACHIEVE THE IMPOSSIBLE…”

    Thank you very much.
