“This is not an environmental disaster, and I will say that again and again because it is a national phenomena. Oil has seeped into this ocean for centuries, will continue to do it.” declaredRep. Don Young (R-AK) referring to theDeepwater Horizon (BP) blowout—the worst oil disaster in American history, exceeding the Exxon Valdez spill. It is estimated that the gusher has spewed between 15 and 40 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
Rep. Joe Barton apologized to BP for the company having to provide $20 billion for an escrow account to compensate the people of the Gulf Coast for the worst oil disaster in American History—that BP caused. The fact that he would attack a deal that protects American citizens from damages caused by a foreign corporation is disgusting.
Michele Bachmann took the side of BP (instead of standing up for the millions of Americans who have been affected by the BP oil spill) by offering advice. She stated, “if I was the head of BP, I would let the signal get out there — ‘We’re not going to be chumps, and we’re not going to be fleeced.”
“The ocean will take care of this on its own if it was left alone and left out there. It’s natural. It’s as natural as the ocean water is.” —Rush Limbaugh
