BETON HALA WATERFRONT CENTER
international competition for a water front center in Belgrade, Serbia
- The main focus of the proposal was to integrate a public plaza as a connection between Belgrade Fortress / Kalemegdan Park with Beton Hala water front center.
Instead of creating bridges, we proposed a round shape bridge building, in order to integrate form and function.
Round shape was decided to create a loop, a pedestrian path, so the connection becomes a promenade through the commercial and exhibition program and allows great views over Sava River.
There are two different ways of connection, one trough the slightly sloped roof of the building, which becomes the outdoors public plaza, and the commercial promenade, indoors and around a vast green zone.
All pathways are accessible for handicapped.
The façade is proposed to have the same column rhythm as Beton Hala, so it integrates in portico. The constructive system is basically concrete columns and slabs. There is an average distance of 5.5 meters between columns.
The result of the horizontality of the building and the same Beton Hala`s façade system proposed, is a center complex that integrates in all matters with the existing and at the same time allows a landscape view from the river, almost intact as it is in present time.
According to the orientation of the project, the upper floor changes its trace so it gives shade to the transparent commercial façade, resulting in energy efficiency.
The gas station and bus parking are located in plaza level as well as the tram stop. Parking for cars is proposed underground, the idea is to free traffic in street level.
All services for commerce and exhibition are underground.
