Montecito Heights Design Complex
[B] iConic is a design based around the transportation network of Los Angeles California. iConic design is a company that takes business to the next level by combining marketing, architecture, graphic design and photography into one company. Located just outside of downtown L.A. in the foothills of the Pascadena Mountains, the building becomes a network of information being transfered along a snaking structure that forms to the mountainside. Each leg of the building houses a department of the company. All the legs combine into a central hub where the meeting and social spaces are located. This form is very much like the freeway systems that drivers take to commute throughout the city. The central hub becomes the junction where (information) roads intersect.
The building structure is very similar to that of a freeway system as well. All the members are reinforced concrete with a post tensioned concrete roof system that supports vegetation which covers it. Because the legs are projecting from and receding back into the ground, it was only natural to cover the roof system with grass making it nearly invisible to the eye when looked upon from directly above.
This unique design becomes completely accessible to the handicapped which presented an incredible challenge, while also allowing for complete freedom. Not only is the design accessible for ADA code by a ramp system, but the iConic building also features three crane systems and is completely segway drivable which is a nice way to move around the 46,000 square foot building.
