El Carnaval de Ayquina en el norte de Chile, es una festividad de raigambreprehispánica asociada a la fertilidad de la tierra. Es una fiesta sincrética que se mezcla con lacelebración de la aparición de la Virgen de la Guadalupe, quién según latradición, se manifestó a un niño de la localidad de Tiara.
Hoy en día se celebra a la Virgen durante cinco díascon cantos y bailes de distintas escuelas y bandas culturales que vienen delugares tan lejos como Perú y Bolivia.

The Ayquina Carnival in the north of Chile, is a religious festivity of prehispanicorigins related to the Earth’s fertility. It’s a syncretic event that mixes itsorigins with the apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe to a shepherd boy fromthe small town of Tiara. The celebration lasts for five days during which differentbands from as far as Peru and Bolivia share their happiness with dances andchants.
