Autour De Minuit

  • Autour De Minuit
    A Typographic Installation

Autour de Minuit is a conceptual piece for a typographic exhibition portraying the jazz standard Round Midnight by pianist Thelonious Monk. Not only did the jazz standard contribute greatly to Miles Daviss success when he played it in 1955 at the Newport Jazz Festival, but it was also used as the title of a critically acclaimed film with parallels to his life in which the main character gets an offer to play in Paris where he receives the respect for his music which he didnt get in NYC. The exhibition piece consists of a suitcase with the lyrics memories round midnight cut out giving the viewer the ability to see inside. The lyrics of the song where also written in diary form and displayed inside the suitcase with tickets and boarding passes made to graphically resemble tickets from the 1950s when Miles Davis first visited Paris.
