- Produced at the new EKWC (European Ceramic Work Centre) CAD/CAM facility, using ZPrinter and traditional plaster mould techniques.August - September 2010
Christie Wright experimented with early CNC milling equipment at the EKWC in 2004 and 2008. When the opportunity came to to test the EKWC's new CAD/CAM facility, she and her partner Arjen Noordeman were inspired to create Audiowear specifically for the combination of this 3D modeling equipment with ceramic reproduction techniques.
"Audiowear", is a series of musical jewelry inspired by idiophone and aerophone instruments and the aucoustic qualtiy of clay : a Trumpet bracelet, a Guiro cuff, a Whistle necklace, a Pan-flute collar, a Rattle and Xylophone bangles. Designed in Rhino software, the models were first printed on the ZPrinter 450. Moulds were designed by splitting the models into parts and printing contra-mould parts for some more complex objects. After building the plaster moulds, all the instruments were slip-cast in porcelain.
Electronic musicians, hip hop producers and one traditional musician were then asked to create sample-based and live compositions, respectively, from the objects' sounds. To complete the circle, these digital compositions will be pressed as a limited edition vinyl record. Finally, music videos is being created.
Stay tuned for more music!
