This project was for my creative thinking class. The objective was to reflect on my creativity, past, present or future. We could not use any paper in order to avoid being conventional. We were allowed to incorporate some text, and I used words from Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem Nature. I decided to focus my creativity on the present. I have had the opportunity to research and experiment a lot with sustainability and fashion. I also gained inspiration from a jewelry designer, tinctory and the field I hope to work in, visual merchandising. The book is kind of like a shrine to nature and the delicate qualities of it. The book is composed of fabric that I folded and sewed together as well as a terrarium with handmade fabric plants. I hand dyed and hand made natural dyes using fruit such as strawberries, grapes, as well as leaves, onion peels, and grass. I painted, and gave the crate a weathered look by disassembling it and wearing the surface. I hope to take this project even further by building a replica in a life size scale.
