«ArtèFoto non è un festival di fotografia d’arte. Il nome del festival nasce dalla domanda “cos’è l’arte”. In un tempo in cui la parola “artista” o l’aggettivo “artistico” viene usato per una molteplicità di cose e spesso a sproposito, ci è sembrato doveroso sottolineare come le fotografie così dette artistiche sono per noi quelle che ci arrivano dal fotogiornalismo, quelle capaci di emozionarci e farci riflettere. ArtèFoto ha deciso quindi di dare la precedenza a quei reportages che ancora ci sorprendono e a quei fotografi che il più delle volte non hanno mai esposto in Italia e scelgono il nostro festival come anteprima.»
 
«ArtèFoto Festival is not about Art Photography. The name ArtèFoto was generated by the question “what is art”. In times when the terms “artist” or “artistic” are greatly, and often incorrectly, abused, it seems only right to underline that for us the so called artistic pictures are those that come from photojournalism, those capable to move and make us think. Therefore ArtèFoto has decided to give priority to all those reportages that are still able to surprise us and to those photographers who, in most cases, have never been exhibited in Italy and choose our festival as a preview.»
