Art Direction // "El Rabino" Pop-up Book

  • "El Rabino" Pop-up Book
Free interpretation of a short story (Communications & Design Master's Degree, ELISAVA)
  • Brief
  • Objective
Change the way of communicating the message of the short story and make proposals of the different channels that the message can be distributed.
The short story is an extract from the book "The Myth of the Eternal Return".
  • We started this project focusing in the idea of the treasure, in search of the desired and we had in mind the metaphor of the story suggested, that perhaps what we desire most is not far away from us, and it's closer than we imagine.
We wanted our proposal to be the most interactive as possible, so the story could reach the viewer in many different ways and senses.
At first, we tried to look at the project from the viewpoint of a child, the simplicity that a book as a game can have, so that the message gets more fun and directly.
While the project was evolving, we realized that many times adults need that interaction to remember the message, so we thought it was an amazing idea to build and design a pop-up book and get all this requirements together.
We used, mainly, found materials and objects, and we created fictional characters to extract the story from any connection with reality.
Finally, we decided to introduce an additional element to increase audience participation, which is the key hidden inside the suitcase, as "key" also for their own treasure hunt.
