Spending most of my life in the Arab world I was brought up to always admire the west. From art to culture I was always fascinated by the work.
After moving to europe and finally living amongst the people here, it became clear to me that they had a rather defensive attitude towards us Arabs.
The perception that most europeans have towards us shocked me at first. They were frightened by the idea that I was becoming a part of their community.
This is why I decided to dedicate my art towards bridging the gap between the two.

What scares people the most here is appearances. When someone meets me, at first they are interested. It is only until they hear me speak arabic that they pull away. When they see symbols of our culture and religions, they feel the tension.

My work aims to overcome that obstacle.

I want to show that we can do art on an international level while sticking to our origins and culture.
In this project i want to take Arabic calligraphy into another level. It has a lot of potential, and I intend to explore it.

I see Arabic calligraphy from a minimal eye, very geometric, very abstract and more architectural. Something that westerner scan relate to, and even admire.
As a start , i picked some Arabic word, random words, but what they have in common is their gentle approachable nature. They are simple but positive, and very strong. They reflect our true modest but profound values. These words are universal. everyone can relate to them. Words like: love, peace, dear, giving, light….

I want these words to represent to represent us Arabs for who we truly are; welcoming and generous. I want us to give a positive impression for a change.

This project will be a series of acrylic paint on paper. The colors are very basic and neutral: black and white. for now sizes are: 100/70cm, 70/50cm and 50/50 cm. Read Less
