Right from the beginning of this assignment I knew that I wanted to create something that represented myself both personally and in my own personal style of design. I especially wanted it to represent my passion for typography.
One of the most important things in my life is my family - my grandparents in particular. When I was a young child my grandfather used to tell me his stories, ones which he had written himself. I wanted those stories to be the central part of my design, along with a visual emphasis on typography.
I designed an original typography specifically for the book. I wanted it to be ornamental and decorative and function especially well on title pages and for glyphs/initials. I designed a symbol for each text including individual ornamental decoration. I also bound the book myself and handcrafted the cover.
The book has become an original design, both in its collection of my grandfather's stories, and in its use of my own original typography. It is a representation of who I am as a designer and what I aspire to do with my creativity in the future.
