Gamayun 
a prophetic bird of Russian folklore. She is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, and lives on an island in the east close to paradise.

"Matryoshka"    37.5cm x 39.5cm


Matryoshka
  in old Russian among peasants the name Matryona or Matriosha was a very popular female name. The name has a Latin root "mater" and means "Mother". It was associated with the image of of a mother of a big peasant family who was very healthy and had a portly figure.

"Zhar Ptitsa"    71.5cm x 54.5cm


Zhar Ptitsa
(Firebird)  Slavic folklore, a magical glowing bird from a faraway land, which is both a blessing and a bringer of doom to its captor. Its feathers do not cease glowing if removed, and one feather can light a large room if not concealed.

"Sirin"    79.5cm x 49.5cm


Sirin
a mythological creature of Russian legends, with the head and chest of a beautiful woman and the body of a bird. According to myth, the Sirins lived "in Indian lands" near Eden. Sirins sing beautiful songs to the saints, foretelling future joys, but for mortals the birds are dangerous. Men who hear them will forget everything on earth, follow them, and ultimately die.

Alkonost
  a legendary bird in Slavic mythology who has the body of a bird with the head and chest of a woman. She lives in paradise but enters our world to deliver a message. Her voice is so sweet that anybody hearing it can forget everything.

"Riba-Kit"    38cm x 34cm


Riba-Kit
(whale-fish) is the ancestor or "mother" of all fishes in Slavic folklore.

It holds the Earth on itself and when it turns, then the “mother ground” shakes.
It's considered that when the Whale-fish swims away the end of the world will come.
