American Beauty is both an exercise in experimental type treatment
and a careful screenplay analysis, where the natural architecture of
the text is utilized and manipulated to convey the character of its content.
Throughout the book, characters shift in and out of traditional typesetting
procedures, a system of restrainment that echoes the self-imposed restraint seen
in the film. As the plot careens into total disregard of societal norms, so too
does the type become frenzied and chaotic.
The final book runs to just over 300 pages, with a special vellum insert.
