This Alan Moore book series was selected for redesign in order to communicate that graphic novels are still novels, and appeal to those who would otherwise disregard such works. In hopes of jettisoning the stigma surrounding the graphic novel writing style, which associates them with adolescent pass-time, and entirely new book cover style was adopted. The typical comic book style was abandoned in favor of a sophisticated, subtle finish.
V for Vendetta, Watchmen, and, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow form a potential “intro to Alan Moore” or “Best Works” book set. In order to create a cohesive set, a face from each of the books was selected, and framed in the same proportions on the book cover. A minimalist, stylized illustration was selected in order to maintain the sophisticated, subtle finish proposed in the initial goals.
