A unique channel brand for Iraq's most popular tv station AL BAGHDADIA. This frames won the pitch and production took place at velvet.design in Germany.

Velvet created a completely new look for Iraq's premier tv station AL BAGHDADIA. After only five years in operation Al Baghdadia has become one of the most popular tv stations in Iraq. With a number of design overhauls over the years it never had a full, holistic design that embodied what the station has become to mean within the Iraq. That is where velvet.design was tasked to establish a design that combines all the station‘s attributes like independent, liberal, forward-looking. This package included the complete on- and off-air station identity plus a special focus on the news. The brief was more for a vision of an entire country – a future unified Iraq – than for merely a commercial client. A countrywhose separate groups have at least one thing in common, the river that runs through their land. So, the idea was to embody possibilities of a most difficult and complex society reaching for the better, the possibility of bringing beauty into daily life, the possibility – yes, through tv – to see and discover the beauty in life, despite the difficult circumstances people in Iraq find themselves in.
The greatest challenge was to find a way to use the creative process to inculcate a deeply positive vision for Iraq. It was actually a double challenge, to avoid both the modern images of unrequited terror and also the cliched, romantic, western notions out of 1001 nights. Read Less
