In 2012 I was asked to exhibit a series of images from my Walking The Streets
project at the AfroVibes UK Festival. Its amazing how much response I got from that project and even more amazing for me to showcase Durban in a different light. To show these people through photographs on an international platform and allow the viewers to experience a slice of Durban for themselves. This year I was lucky enough to be asked to put together an exhibition for the AfroVibes Netherlands Festival, this is where AfroVibes all started.
Arriving in the Netherlands I met up with local artists Kitchell Samuel and Poet, we put together a music video for one of their songs and accompanying their video we put together these character portraits within a week which formed the bulk of my exhibition.
AfroVibes is all about sharing Africa with the rest of the world, each year they select 24 artists to come over to their country and showcase different parts of Africa through performances, sculpture, photographs and any other forms of art that they find unique. I have a lot of respect for the team and have loved working with them for the past two years. Thanks to Bob Meijs, Azim Koning, Katy Streek,Jan Ryan,Michaela Waldram-Jones and James Ngcobo.
The following images are the character portraits and the main poster for the Afrovibes festival which was show all over Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht.
Thanks to Ebony
