Aesop's Fables: Raynard the Fox

  • Aesop's Fable: Raynard the Fox
    Illustrated by Sarah Underwood
  • This was a college brief to chose a fairy tale and illustrate it to a 17 x 12cm format and finally produce a bound book of the full story.

I drew my inspiration from the fairy tale classics such as Arthur Rackham and the style of art nouveaux and border patterns.

Raynard the Fox is an Aesop's Fable about a fox who lives in the forest with many other creatures including the King who was of course a Lion. Raynard outwits the other animals large or small with his cunning for his personal amusement. In this tale he gets the better of Bruno the Bear, who was sent by the King to bring Raynard to court to be tried for his misdeeds. Unfortunately, Bruno is distracted by Raynard's tales of bountiful supplies of honey and follows him into the woods to meet his fate.
