- In an ever cluttered visual landscape, interactivity is a fantastic way to make messages resonate. What ways can typography require input from the viewer both on screen and in print? Active Perception is a type conference all about interactive typography and its challenges and innovations as a new field.
- A series of posters/mailers you'd receive prior to the conference.
- Back side to the mailers. To decode the message (information about the conference), you use the red decoder glasses that would come with the mailer.
- With a set of typography elements created from 10 different typefaces, there are hundreds of ways the logo-type can be displayed. This is a big part of the identity for the conference.
- The posters are a way to advertise the conference and are meant to evoke curiosity. They are made with blown up elements of the logo-type.
- Again, using the main typography elements, this is the schedule/lecture booklet you would receive while at the conference.
- Siggi Eggertsson is giving a lecture at the conference. (hypothetical of course)
- Continuing the idea of interactivity, the booklet folds up to reveal an image. In this specific booklet, it reveals and image and quote from one of the guest speakers.
- This specific folding isn't my concept. Someone else did this kind of folding online and I decided to try it out. This is me giving them credit.
- Also, I worked on this project with another student (Ian Tirone). We both came up with the concept and identity for the conference. I created all of the work shown here. He created a kick ass website for the conference.
- These next three are a set of experiments I had done that lead me to the above conference material.
I was experimenting with decoding and experimental ways to view typography. This first example uses a red overlay to decode the message. Using a red transparency sheet (similar to 3D glasses), all the colored type disappears to reveal only the blue typography.
