Access 2011 Conference

  • Access is an annual library technology conference and the theme for Access 2011 is "exploring ideas and initiatives around open data, open standards, open source software, open access publishing, and open archives."

This conference seems like an open knowledge ecosystem in which every contribution, every act of sharing is interconnected. I, then, linked this topic of open source information to the carefree, open dispersal of dandelion seeds. It is able to describe metaphorically the act of information dispersal.

It was a challenge to bring together the feminine nature of "libraries" and "dandelions" with the dynamic, masculine attitude of "technology". I went with a minimalistic approach - the logo is very flexible in which people could create their own shapes from it, hence the notion of "open."
  • Dandelion seed dispersal as a metaphor of free, information dispersal.
  • Logo exploration
  • Final logo iteration: Abstraction of the dandelion.
  • Typeface in its raw form, extracted from shapes in the logo.
Anyone can try to create variants of this typeface from the logo, hence the idea of "open."

  • Typeface simplified to show "Access."
  • Promotional poster iterations (24" x 36" each) using the typeface
  • Nametag
  • Web design adhering to its Wordpress format
