Istanbul is not only a place. Istanbul is a feeling.
Everybody can feel it and everybody feels it in a different way. For some people it is "hüzün",
the black feeling that encloses the city like descending fog. For others it is the longing you
can sense, when you pass the Bosphorus on a "vapur". Or the sweet idleness, "keyf", that
helps to escape the everyday life.
In the book the reader approaches the city of Istanbul on an emotional level. To outline the
Istanbul-Feeling various turkish authors let us be part of their personal Istanbul. The stories,
narratives and poems all have one recurring theme: The Bosphorus. It keeps the megacity
in balance and alive. The Bosphorus is the heart, the flowing heart of Istanbul. The literature
is complemented by photographies of mine. Together they form the atmospheric main part
of the book. Each of the seven chapters opens a different sentiment to the reader.
A stylistically separated attachment offers interesting background knowledge.
