- Aarhus 2017, 2010–––––
In 2017 Aarhus is the European Capital of Culture as decided by the European Commission. As part of a school assignment I was asked to create a visual identity for this. ECOC puts a lot of focus on progression and cultural development, which I have tried to convey through the solution, which shows a process or a transition through subtle graphic elements such as the gradient as the most minimalist symbol for a transition.
Most city-branding done today is very outspoken and uses fancy catchphrases. I wanted to go in another direction and see if big scale branding can be done in a more abstract way letting the audience make up their own interpretation instead of just applying the city a set of values.
The typography used in the identity was designed by myself as a part of the assignment. It tries to convey values such as "modern", "progression", "subtle" and "appealing".
