This was a class project which had us work with the word "fail." Also, we had to make it about 5 seconds long. My idea was to make an advertisement screen you would see in big cities that would show off a nice animation but that would then crash and show an error screen (like we've all seen at some point I suppose).
I first thought about the opposite of something that fails, like an epic fail: an epic win. But that was a bit too obvious so I thought about awesomness. With that in mind, I took a pen and started sketching my letters on a loose piece of paper…
I then went into Illustrator and drew my letters one by one, getting new ideas along the way. When that was done, I opened up After Effects and got to work. Man, there were a lot of masks to animate…
Below you'll find an isolated GIF of each letter. Because of the 5-second constraint, I couldn't really linger on each letter in the video. Hopefully this'll be more enjoyable.
