    HONGQIAO AIRPORT TERMINAL EXTENTION
    2011.05, SHANGHAI,  CHINA
  • The project is located right in front of terminal building. The aviation museum is the core role of the regional renovation strategy around Hongqiao airport. Together with the aviation exhibition hall, four office buildings and one shopping mall are planned along side the terminal building.

The concept intends to remind visitors of the site itself. As part of the airport, the building reflects the most significant natural feature in this site, the wind. Despite conforming with mass requirements, ‘the building is featured by a roof ‘ruffled by wind’, and ’planted’ with LED  lights, which will dangle in the wind and flash in ‘rainbow’ color -the literal meaning of ‘Hongqiao’- at night.

The feature roof is combined by thousands of solar panels, which provide power for LED lights and buildings daily use. Two green open space are designed wo bring urban context into the building and make the building a viberant core area at day and night.
