This new diabetes care centre was required to provide a facility for early detection and treatment of diabetes which is a serious problem in Mauritius. Divided into two interconnected blocks, the treatment rooms and facilities are oriented around two roof lit courtyards, providing natural light and ventilation. A series of screens and pergolas were designed to protect the interior spaces. It also reduces the requirements for mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning and the life cycle costs of the building.
