This is a parody of webcam sessions that can happen in online chat rooms and applications. The purpose of the exaggerated facial expressions on some of the models was to imitate some of the typical 'emoticons' that are used in online forums, social networking sites and chats, but I also wanted to add humour to the photographs. Everything is completely staged and parodied - the people, poses and captions. The typical Windows Live Messenger webcam frames have been added outside of the photographs to make it appear as if these people were on webcam to each other. 100 photographs were initially taken for this project; 10 images for each of the 9 people representing different facial expressions. Certain photographs were picked and matched together in order to make up quotes from the chats.
Many thanks to Lawrence, Carmen, Edward, Quoc, Kawing, Janet, Mohan and Leonard for being my models! You fobs.
