  • A Walk Through Noquochoke Orchards
    Directions, Print Design

This is a three part project that mapped out a one mile walk to any destination. I chose a local apple orchard that was rich with texture, nature, and family history. The three parts to the project was to execute the directions using first only typography, second solving by image, and third combined both the ides of typography and image.
  • The first part of the project I used type as image to illustrate the apple orchard. On the first page the different types of apples found in the orchard make up the shape of an apple for the front cover. As you open the folded document, it's a never ending cycle of directions. First set of directions is illustrated as a tree trunk, next when you open you'll find the directions continued illustrated as apple tree branches. The last page shows an outline of the full tree using typography to express the feeling and sensation of the orchard along with a historical poem about Noquochoke Orchards.
  • For the second part of the project I composed an accordion bound book using only the images I had photographed at the orchard. The directions are shown through image based on the tour through the orchard and what you see first. On one side it shows the trails and abandoned objects along the way, on the other only the apples you pass through your journey.
  • The third portion of the project I combined type with image to make a book about Noquochooke Orchard. The book tells the story of the last 5 generations of the Smith family history. It uses all original photos and the directions displayed in red to help navigate through the orchard.
