Macbeth has been an understudy throughout all his life. Now, almost 40, he is once again hidden in the shadow of the great actor Mr Duncan. Marion, his lover, urges him to take on the leading role by other means. Macbeth does not lack ambition bur rather the determination to do what is necessary.
