- Video ProjectA Short Film: No Laugh No WeepAs Alberto Melluci states in his book “The Playing Self”, laughterbrings us most directly into contact with the experience of the limitand of possibility. Humans are the only animals capable of laughter.Laughter certainly serves to express emotions, to communicate, to facilateencountering others and besides as psychoanalytic theory emphasizes;laughing involves an act of rebellion by the ego. Through laughter, the ego launches a momentary mutiny against the superego, its grey and severe mentor and thus releases its aggressiveness in acontrolled manner. As socially perceived the reverse of laughter isweeping and arises when we confront our suffering in moments ofdepression, when we wrap ourselves and our lives in a dark shroud. The relationship between laughter and weeping grants access to aspace of gratuitousness and play, to the element of childishness inherentin all of us. Today, spaces has become for us an artificial construct which makes it increasingly difficult to maintain the relationshipbetween the mental construct and the physical dimensions in which we nevertheless still move.In my video work I want to deal with this space idea as the loss of emotionsin an individual’s self seeking.
