This project is the capstone thesis of my masters course in design practices at School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The project ran for a period of two months and was tutored by Ernesto Spicciolato, Fred Han and Peter Dean.
Titled ‘A New History For The Future’ the project is a critical design to increase the awareness of various different imbalances in our world today and how these are related to the way our past affects our present and future.
The project is a development of my previous project ‘The Interhuman Union’ where a new nation was created for people to join to enjoy free diplomatic relations with other countries, hence providing them with a globally recognized professional residency to facilitate a modern nomadic lifestyle.
The question behind this initiative is why nationality affects the opportunities of the individual, but as the project developed through research of different global controversial matters, more and more of such questions appeared creating a wide base of reasons why people would want to leave their nationality for another more visionary one.
Pretending that all these people break away from their original nations to form their own nation, the project is a study of how a such nation, without any history, would place itself in the world as we know it, and how it would choose to react to the different imbalances history has created
Aside from the manifesto of the nation, the outcome of the project is a movie about the formation and development of the nation. The movie is a comment on how our world works and is intended to encourage divergent thinking on this particular topic.
Personally, I do not endorse everything that is being stated and likewise, I do not expect anyone else to. My wish is for the project to be an inspiring piece of work whether experienced as appealing, provocative or a combination of the two.
