In May of 2020, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic put out a call for anyone that had created Los Angeles Rams' uniform concepts, or had an interest in doing so.
Knowing that I was qualified, but unsure of what direction this project would go, I contacted Jourdan, looking for more details.
The idea was to assemble a Rams' uniform concept, with pieces created by different artists & designers, combined to create a single alternative 2021 concept for the team.
And I thought, "Okay, cool. I've created concepts for any and all parts of uniforms before. Let's do it."
Then the email came.
"Design the 2021 ALTERNATE LOGO CONCEPT"
Oh boy, I thought. This'll be interesting.
In a timeframe of one week, I sketched, concepted, digitalized, tweaked... until I reached what became my final designs.
The article (featuring the work of many other talented creatives and Rams-related concepts) was published on 23 June 2020 (paywall).
What I had written for The Athletic was *ahem* "edited for clarity" (which makes sense).
However, I see no reason not to put the entirety of my design explanation over here.
