The Concept
Affintè is a representation of the natural experience of life and how empathy is built throughout that. My tombstone lives as a bench. A place where any wandering person may find a place to sit and see the beauty of the earth they live on. This, represents my empathy. It is built from a stone- Agatha black granite. This stone represents protection and healing, it represents the part of me that lives to be the protector of my loved ones. It sits beneath a tree in the middle of Wendover, England. The place where I ultimately find the most peace. A place where I can feel the world take a breath, and somewhere I will always call home.
The Process
I was influenced by many different works, but mainly of those by Richard Serra and Zaha Hadid. The form bends to fit to the shape of the human form and provide comfort and support to the user.
