OTSUKARE : Curry search engine iOS Native app

The creation of this mobile interface has a quite funny story behind it.

My colleagues--They're really crazy about curry. Any kind of curry, Indian, Thai, Japanese.. etc, you name it! And they have succeeded on making me crazy about curry too.

We were working from home due to the COVID19 pandemic for almost 3 months, and we have been missing eating curry together at our favourite shop: CAMP CURRY TOKYO. This curry have made me a true Japanese curry fan. We missed it so much so we decided to do a CURRY DAY once we returned to the office after the Tokyo emergency state ends. Behold, the ultra delicious wonderful curry picture below:

And the day has finally arrived. Our CURRY DAY! I was so excited that when the #DailyUI #022 popped out, (Theme: Search) I decided to create a "Curry-shop" search engine iOS Native app for "Curry Monsters" like me and my colleagues. For the persona, of course I don't have to think twice. It's us, especially my colleagues. We are always up to try and get to know where is the best curry shop in the area.

The name OTSUKARE--I came up from the Japanese term "Otsukaresama" 「おつかれさま」Which means ”Thank you for your hard work" + ”Kare"「カレー」, a Japanised word for "Curry" OTSU+KARE = OTSUKARE!

I thought it was quite a good Japanese pun for an expatriate like me...(Please agree on this)

The whole process of the creation was within an hour, from deciding the persona, scribbling some features that can come up with it, wire-framing, and the UI creation on Adobe XD. For us "Curry Monsters"  Search feature, type of curry, spiciness level, price.. these filters are quite important. I decided to put spiciness level as some of my colleagues can't really handle spicy curries, thought it'd be helpful!

Some names that I was thinking through.. lol, KAREizy???
For the colours, at first, I came up with orange as the whole background. Asked for my colleagues opinion and their feedback was the orange colour might fight with the colour of the curry pictures. Which is very true! First draft:
Here comes the final draft! I swapped the colour onto white and greyish white, while maintaining the orange as its primary colour.
And please have a look on the video below too!
This project was special for me as our "CURRY DAY" really builds my relationship with my colleagues. Thank you for reading this post! Really appreciate your time. And I present you the best curry I've ever had in Tokyo, SUPER RECOMMENDED if you happen to travel to Tokyo (This is not a paid advertisement! This is an honest recommendation from me):
Potato, bell peppers, tomatoes, purple cabbage, carrots, aubergines, mushrooms, juicy chicken, etc, topped off with a spicy crunchy sprinkles (Which I still haven't figured out what that was but it was indeedly super yummy!!)
Bon Appétit! いただきます!
Special thanks :)
