'GAMA SOFA' Single sofa that reinterpreted Namyeo Gama

BACKGROUND

남부기술교육원의 교육을 마무리하면서 졸업작품으로 진행한 1인 소파입니다.

소재, 하중, 구조, 인체공학 등 의자는 가구 디자인의 모든 요소가 집약된 가장 까다로운 결과물이라고 생각합니다. 이전에 의자를 디자인하고 제작해 본 경험이 없었기 때문에, 교육과정을 시작하면서 졸업작품은 의자로 마무리하자고 생각했습니다. 교육원에서 1년동안 배운 원목 짜맞춤 기법과 CNC를 활용하여 제작했습니다.

This is a single sofa that was conducted as a graduation work while finishing education at Technical Education Center.

Chairs, including materials, loads, structures, and ergonomics, are considered to be the most demanding results of all elements of furniture design. Since I have never had any experience in designing and making chairs before, At the start of the curriculum, I thought that my graduation work would be finished with a chair. It was produced by using wood framing technique and CNC learned in the training center for one year.

CONCEPT

남여가마는 조선시대에 사용했던 지붕이 없는 작은가마로 고위관리 이상의 입식 이동수단으로 쓰였으며, 편안하면서 튼튼한 형태가 중요했습니다. GAMA SOFA는 남여가마에서 영감을 얻어 1인 소파로 디자인했습니다. 형태적 특징을 살리면서 장식적인 요소를 덜어내어 현대적인 공간에 어울리도록 하는 것에 초점을 두었습니다.

Namyeo Gama was a small roofless kiln used during the Joseon Dynasty. It was used as a means of transport for more than a high-ranking official, and it was important to have a comfortable and strong shape. GAMA SOFA is inspired by Namyeo Gama and designed as a single sofa. The emphasis was on taking off the decorative elements while making use of the morphological features to match the modern space.

➊ The angle of the seat plate is 3 degrees, and the angle of the backrest is 105 degrees.

➋ Considered to make your seat comfortable and comfortable in any posture by making your feet wider and wider enough to sit with your feet up.

➌ We thought of adding a storage rack and a small desk as an option to the armrest in the basic form as a develop direction.

MANUFACTURE PROCESS

전체적인 파트는 CNC로 가공하고, 장부가 들어갈 부분은 수공구로 마무리했습니다.

마감은 샌딩과 화이트 오일 마감을 3번 반복해서 마무리했습니다.

The whole part is machined by CNC, and the part to enter the ledger is finished by hand tool.

The finish was repeated three times with sanding and white oil finish.

좌판의 수평부재는 반턱 맞춤으로 견고함을 더했고,

모든 결구부는 숨은 장부로 짜맞춤하여 깔끔한 디자인을 유지했습니다.

The horizontal member of the seat is half-jawed, adding rigidity.

All the end parts were matched with hidden cogs to maintain a neat design.

MATERIAL

프레임으로 자작나무를 사용했습니다. 조직이 치밀해 단단한 자작나무는

체중을 실어 푹 기대어 앉는 소파에 적합하다고 생각했습니다.

자작나무의 밝은 컬러와 연한 나무결로 시각적으로 소파의 무게감을 덜어냈습니다.

마감 또한 화이트 오일을 사용하여 목재 고유의 아름다움을 살렸습니다.

I used birch as a frame. The tight birch wood is dense and I thought it was suitable for a sofa that sits on your back with your weight on.

The birch's bright color and light wood grain helped visually ease the weight of the sofa.

The finish also uses white oil to make the wood unique.

장식을 정리하면서 심플해진만큼 디테일에 신경을 많이 썼습니다. 장부 부분을 45도 각도로 커팅해서 강조하고, 좌판 각도, 등받이 각도, 쿠션의 R값까지 디자인의 통일성을 위해 세심하게 고려했습니다.

As the decoration got simple, I paid a lot of attention to the details. The cog section was cut to a 45 degree angle, and the left angle, the back angle, and the R value of the cushion were carefully considered for the uniformity of the design.
