Work developed for Handmade Type kurs in the Hochschule Rheinmain in Wiesbaden, Germany 2013.

The teacher encouraged us to dirty our hands by working with analog media into an experimental project where the main topic was "Handmade type".

It was amazing working in this project. I love typography and I love experimenting with things. At first I had quite a lot of ideas but I had to focus. Since this was a minor credit class, I had to focus on which I wanted to do.

I decided to create a calligraphic alphabet with a 18 Escoda brush. Using a little ink amount and water I created a soft layer which would be the letter form. After that, I rewrote the shape improving it and creating some characteristical form in all letters in order to give some typographical coherence to the whole set of characters.
Then after finishing it I would clear the shapes with a copy paper.

The main idea was to use the letter forms to make big letters with nails conecting wool between all of them to create the letters. It was much harder than I though.
Cover process

The images are not too great but show the process of how I did the cover.
I used cutted vinyl to fake the screenprinting method :)
Painted with white acrilyc and then gold acrilyc.

Fictional image to see the behaviour of the letters into a possible enviroment.
The hard thing for the nails concept was that for a vertical comp. I should make a smaller size of the letters in which case I would loose all the nice details with the wool and the nails, that was a pity there was a lot of time invested and in the end didn't work as expected.
Digital typography + 3d scene. Just for fun :)
