Jellyfish with Shells

This is a sculpture of caulk jellyfish and plaster shells that I made.  I started this project by making a caulk mold of a shell (shown below) I found on the beach.
I was able to make the caulk into a mold by putting it in soapy water before handling it, so it would not stick to me.  After the caulk mold set, I placed it in a bowl of sand, so it would not roll around, and poured plaster in it.  I think I had too much water in the first mix because it took a couple of hours to set, and the shell had a lot of bubbles in it.  However, I was able to mix the right amount of plaster and water in the other two.  I noticed that the mold looked like a jellyfish, which inspired the rest of the sculpture.  I freehanded the jellyfish and added food coloring to the red and orange one.  I learned that you have a very limited timeframe to work with the caulk, too early and it is too soft to shape, but once it starts to set it hardens really fast.  To present my sculpture I placed it on a plate of sand.
