As many countries are still under lockdown due to COVID19, people all over the world are encouraged to stay at home and practice social distancing. Due to this, I thought it fitting to embrace this time in isolation and pay homage to my home by digitally illustrating it to create a poster print.
The illustration style is inspired by the architecture of the house which emits a retro look and feel. Certain areas of the illustration, like the sun and corner of the roof, appear to peak outside the white frame border ever so slightly. This is symbolic of our desire to leave the confines of our homes, while we all know very well that we shouldn't.
All the colours used in this illustration are extracted from sunsets which happened out in my front yard over a period (Cape Town boasts some of the most beautiful sunsets ever seen). The difference in hues and saturations in the artwork is achieved by overlapping vector objects with different blending modes and adjusting the opacity of a few shapes here and there. The colours for the palette were easily extracted and saved to my Creative Cloud Library by using Adobe Color.
